The purpose of the Likable Witness Inventory (LWI) is
to evaluate a Witness’s understanding of the testifying situation
and to help the Witness prepare to be a truthful, likable witness. It
is a clinical, educational procedure involving self appraisal and
assistance by the Preparing Attorney.
The LWI is designed by Dr. Robert Gordon in consultation
with the Board of Advisors of the Wilmington Institute Network(WIN).
It is based on 30 years of research and experience in helping witnesses
testify truthfully, competently and persuasively.
An Interpretive Report is provided to the Witness
and to the Attorney who refers the witness for evaluation.
The report is a useful source of information and recommendations
for the witness and for the attorney who is preparing the witness.

The Inventory includes 10 sections. Each
section explores a vital factor for a witness who seeks to be effective,
persuasive and likable. Each section has 10 relevant Inventory
items. Doctoral graduate student Tanya Taylor has collaborated on
the design of the factors and items.
The Inventory answers and results are secure and confidential.
The Witness is not asked to give identifying information about the
case.
The LWI is designed for use in civil and criminal
cases, in jury and bench trials and in dispute resolution proceedings.
It may be recommended by attorneys of all specialties, by in-house
counsels and by government agencies. The Inventory is intended to
be helpful for fact and expert witnesses. It is written in
an adult format. But it may also be used for teenage witnesses with
parental consent. The Inventory continues to be improved by a program
of research and application to actual cases.
